Dr. Susan R. Atlas ![]() | Director Susan R. Atlas susie@sapphire.phys.unm.edu Room 2003 505.277-8242/8335 Susan R. Atlas, PhD, is Research Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy and Director of the Center for Advanced Research Computing. She is co-Director of the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource and an Associate Member of the Cancer Biology and Biotechnology Program at the UNM Cancer Center. Dr. Atlas leads computationally-intensive research programs in molecular biophysics and biophysics, and in machine learning/pattern recognition as applied to molecular classification for outcome prediction and novel subtype identification in cancer. Her theoretical work relates to the development of exchange-correlation energy density functionals for strongly-correlated electronic systems and charge-transfer embedded-atom functionals for molecular dynamics simulations of molecules and materials. |

Otero is the second point of contact for all administrative issues for the Center and is currently maintaining CARC's website. She has a Bachelor's degree in English with a concentration in Professional Writing and a minor in Chicano Studies. |

Jim E. Prewett
| HPC Systems Engineer III James E. Prewett leads the systems group at UNM CARC. Jim is also involved in log analysis research for cluster systems and larger networks through the http://www.carc.unm.edu/~download/LoGS/project. |
Susan Wilson
| Sr. Database Administrator Susan is a senior-level database administrator who provides general database support for interdisciplinary bioinformatics projects for the Center, the Cancer Research and Treatment Center (CRTC), and Shared Resource for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (SRBCB). |
Roy Heimbach
| Sr. Applications Support Analyst Roy Heimbach is the point of contact for user requests regarding assistance with software/coding issues and code performance problems. In addition, he is the primary for Pablano and JS20 user community, all Apple Clusters (Hammer and Yenta), and all backup and restores. |

Chun-Yu Chan
| Systems Analyst II Chun-Yu Chan cychan@hpc.unm.edu Room 1118 505.277.8339 Chun-Yu Chan is the point of contact for the Center's wired & wireless network, Access Grid and mail server. He monitors and maintains all Windows/Mac desktop and laptop computers. In addition, he is the liaison for the Center's Resident Research Groups. |
Brian Smith
| Chief Scientist Brian Smith, along with Frank Gilfeather and John Sobolewski, was previously a co-PI on the original grant to run the Maui High Performance Computing Center. He is also a founder of the UNM Center for High Performance Computing. Brian retired from the University and the Computer Science Department several years ago, but continues to be active in the Center. He works in the general area of user support, helping to develop and debug codes on new systems. Most importantly, Brian provides a great deal of guidance and advice in setting the direciton for the Center. |
